Hi - I am working on the compilation instructions for MySQL.
after entering:
without-bench
I get this message:
configure: error: invalid variable name: with-server-suffix

I downloaded mysql-5.0.37.

I'm a boner . . . I was simply leaving out the "--" at the beginning of each line. It is now compiling.
