Robert, there are many scripts availble to move from UW to a Courier mailbox format, Google is your friend for this one. And yes I think you should follow in this direction and move them to the new machine into .usr/local/virtual, that is a very good possiblility.

When your done change the routing and presto new server is live.

I would need more specific info on the transfer of mail from one server to another.
I want to keep my DYNDNS address...however since I'm behind the router with both machines I can't use two real DNS names. It will only port forward with on DNS address.

Pondering...is there a way to just transfer the mailboxes locally on one machine from MBOX(UW) to Maildir(Courier)

can I just do this to the local machine and then just mvove the messages to the new machine and put them in the proper /usr/local/virtual.....

Thanks

Robert,

Switching servers is easy, just change the routing in your router and have it point to the new machine with courier. Moving the data is another thing. Configuration you can setup before moving read the documentation on the imap stuff (we don't do the whole courier stack, sorry). Then you need to move the mailboxes with email, make sure they are in the correct format.

Please contact me directly if you need more info.

Looking forward to the php stuff.

I current run 6 years+ a UW IMAP server with self SSL cert.

I want to move thing over to courier.

my dyndns address is lets say server1.dyndns.org

I have both computer in my house behind a DLink router.

So how can I transfer the files from one server to another if I want to maintain the same DNS name. Is there a way to transfer the name of the virtual domain to something else on the courier/postfix setup?

Also what tools are available just to migrate this over and any tutorials would be apprecitated.

Thanks for all the tutorials on here. I will be contributing a more robust PHP in the near future for people to use.

Thanks

James you could try to remove the file courierimapuidb which is a flat file db of all the mails. It will be rebuild automatically after a re-login of the user. Please let me know if this works for you/him. I've tried this is on my test system succesfully but didn't loose any mail beforehand.

I have a use who claims that they lost all the mail in their Inbox when their laptop went to sleep. I copied the contents of /usr/local/virtual/mydomain/hisusername/cur from the backup HD to the same place on the main HD.

When he logs in now with Mail.app he sees no emails in his Inbox, but if he logs in using ThunderBird or RoundCube, he sees 2. He should see over 20 emails.

Is there anyway to update the courierimap database or index or something?

Thanks

Please change the entry to
TLS_PROTOCOL=SSL23
which means to use SSL3 when possible and fall back to SSL2 when SSL3 isn't working. The cause of this is that not every mail client implemented the SSL3 protocol as it should be. I will update the documentation to reflect this change. Sorry I forgot to do it earlier, my apologies!

hey richard -

Thanks for the reply. I changed my /Library/StartupItems/CourierIMAP/CourierIMAP to use imapd-ssl.rc and I was able to connect. Thanks! However, then I started getting an ssl error that, in the mail log file, looked like:

imapd-ssl[427]: couriertls: connect: error:1408F10B:SSL routines:SSL3_GET_RECORD:wrong version number

Google told me to change the line in /usr/local/etc/imapd-ssl from what you had:

TLS_PROTOCOL=SSL3

to

TLS_PROTOCOL=SSL2

and it is now working. So now my question is, is this a big deal? Should i try to get it working with ssl3, or is ssl2 "secure enough"? Thanks for your help.

Did you start up the imap server with the ssl script, so that is
/usr/local/libexec/imapd-ssl.rc
instead of the normal
/usr/local/libexec/imapd.rc
.

After compiling everything succesfully on Mac OS X Leopard (10.5) I
get this error in the mail.log when starting authdaemond:

Nov 29 03:23:05 XXX authdaemond[88436]: dlopen(/XXX/lib/courier-
authlib/libauthmysql.0.so, 9): Symbol not found: _auth_mysql

Everything seems to compile nicely.

It even knows where to find the compiled mysql - I tried to move it and I got another error.
I have now tried with mysql's own precompiled Mac tarball.
Besides that I have tried a variety of configurations and compile
methods.

This is one of them (I have tried compiling with servers to and
without any special CFLAGS or other stuff:

CC=gcc CFLAGS=\"-O3 -fno-omit-frame-pointer\" CXX=gcc CXXFLAGS=\"-O3 -fno-

configure --prefix=/XXX --with-extra-charsets=complex --enable-thread-
safe-client --enable-shared --without-server
make
sudo make install

This seems to work for courier-authlib:

CC=\"\" CXX=\"\" CXXFLAGS=\"\"
CFLAGS=\"-arch i386\" ./configure --with-authmysql --without-authpam --
with-mysql-libs=/XXX/lib/mysql --with-mysql-includes=/XXX/include/
mysql --with-mailuser=_postfix --with-mailgroup=_postfix --prefix=/XXX
make
sudo make install

I have set up the authdaemonrc and authmysqlrc just as they are on a
working server I have + the new setup connects to the already running
and working mysql db.

Any idea what is going on?

Thanks!
.
You also may or may not find this useful as well:
.
http://osdir.com/ml/mail.qmail.qmr/2005-07/msg00147.html
.
Quoted from above "the problem is that famd works inside of portmapper, and portmapper
has historically been a massive source of security holes. i refuse to
use portmapper on any machine which is not protected by a hardware
firewll device of some kind, which obviously means i won't run it on
my own server."
.
BTW why doesn't <br> work??

Er.. well, it died and I tried reinstalling the whole thing using something called MailServe (successor to Postfix Enabler), however it didn't quite turn out as I expected. So today I'll give another shot at installing this. I noticed you have several guides, and they differ a little - is the guide on this site (diymacserver.com) the most recent one?

You might have missed something during the configure phase, still good to know you've got it working.
